Jimi Evan, Minot, charged with Class AA felony gross sexual imposition of children under 15

Jimi Lee Evan, 27, Minot, is charged in district court in Minot with three counts of Class AA felony gross sexual imposition involving a victim under the age of 15 and Class C felony possession of child pornography.

Evan made an initial appearance on the charges on Monday before Judge Richard Hagar.

Ward County Deputy State’s Attorney Todd Schwarz told the judge that Evan is originally from Alaska and has no ties to the community and that Evan has been a licensed child care provider. He said more charges are likely with another alleged victim and more child pornography charges. He asked for bond to be set at $1 million cash or corporate surety. Evan also allegedly made admissions to some of the alleged crimes. According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, all of the alleged victims are under age 12.

Defense attorney Ashley Gulke, who was representing Evan for the hearing, asked for bond to be set at $100,000 cash or surety, which she said is in line with the bond set in other cases with similar circumstances.

Hagar set bond at $200,000 cash or corporate surety, ordered Evan to have no contact with the alleged child victims or their family members, to have no contact with any people under age 18, to use no device capable of accessing the internet, and to be in regular contact with pre-trial services should he make bond.

A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for May 6.
