Ashlee Deschamp charged with voting twice in last fall’s election

Ashlee Monique Deschamp, 45, is accused of voting twice in last fall’s election, a Class C felony. She made an initial appearance on the charge on Monday before Judge Richard Hagar in district court in Minot.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, Deschamp voted once in person on Oct. 28 at the early voting site at the Ward County Administration building and had also filled out an absentee ballot, which she dropped in a slot for absentee ballots at the same building on Oct. 28. Deschamp told authorities that she had gone to the building to drop off her absentee ballot, saw that early voting was taking place and decided to vote in person. However, when she placed her ballot into the ballot machine she did not get a response and didn’t think her vote had been counted. She then decided to drop the absentee ballot she had already filled out into the slot for absentee ballots.
