Mylo Spotted Horse, Minot, sentenced to 10 days time served for child endangerment

Mylo Scott Dawson Spotted Horse Jr., 33, Minot, was sentenced last Wednesday to 360 days in jail, all suspended but the 10 days he already served, and three years of supervised probation for exposing children to drugs in his home on Sept. 11.

The Class C felony will be deemed a Class A misdemeanor if he successfully completes probation. Judge Todd Cresap also ordered Spotted Horse to complete a parenting class, to continue to cooperate with Ward County Social Services regarding the children and to pay $1,100 in court costs.

Mylo Spotted Horse Jr. also pleaded guilty to Class C felony criminal trespass for an incident on July 24 and was sentenced to 180 days, all suspended but the 13 days he already spent in jail, and 180 days of unsupervised probation. He must also pay $1,308.61 in restitution and have no contact with the victims in the case. If he completes probation, the charge will be reduced to a Class A misdemeanor.

Spotted Horse’s wife, Katelin Marie Spotted Horse, 31, was charged in the child endangerment case with the Class C felonies of child endangerment, possession of methamphetamine, possession of fentanyl and possession of drug paraphernalia. The charges against Katelin Spotted Horse are still pending in district court in Minot.

According to court documents, Mylo Spotted Horse called police on Sept. 11 after one of the children found Katelin Spotted Horse on the bathroom floor, barely breathing. Katelin Spotted Horse later left on foot, carrying a young child, for a nearby residence. Officers located her and finding evidence of possible drug use, took her to the hospital to be evaluated and then to jail.

Katelin Spotted Horse told officers she used narcotics as pain management. Based on statements at an initial court appearance, Katelin Spotted Horse was battling serious health conditions and was pregnant at the time of the arrest.

Mylo Spotted Horse also tested positive for amphetamines and ecstasy after he called authorities. He had given permission to search the residence and the search turned up more drugs and drug paraphernalia. He told the judge during his initial appearance that he had called the police to get the children out of a bad situation.

On the trespass charge, Mylo Spotted Horse Jr. kicked in the door to a Minot residence on July 24 and entered the home. He told the judge at his initial appearance that he believed the children were in the home. He apologized and ran out of the house after the resident, who had been asleep in his bedroom, grabbed a gun from the nightstand and ordered him to get out.

Spotted Horse told the judge he has a mental illness. However, he signed a plea deal with the state on Dec. 21, 2020, indicating that he is not currently receiving treatment for a mental illness or disorder.
