Brent Castleman, Minot, sentenced to five years for child abuse
Brent Allen Castleman, 53, Minot, was sentenced on Dec. 23 to 10 years in prison, with five years suspended, for assaulting a woman in front of a child under the age of 5. A jury found him guilty of the Class B felony on Dec. 2. Castleman was acquitted of a second charge of punching another child in the face.
Court records show that Northeast District Court Judge Michael Hurly, who heard the case after all of the judges in the North Central Judicial District had recused themselves, also ordered Castleman to complete a course for domestic violence offenders and an anger management course, to complete a parental capacity and psychological evaluation, and to pay $1,500 in court costs. Castleman will receive credit for 105 days already served in the Ward County Jail.
Castleman is set to go to trial in coming months in other cases as well.
