Kyle Olson-Gilbert, Minot, charged with aggravated assault

Kyle James Olson-Gilbert, 25, is charged in district court in Minot with severely beating and injuring another man during an altercation on Sunday afternoon, Class C felony aggravated assault, and of violating a protection order preventing him from having contact with a woman, a Class A misdemeanor.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed with the court, Olson-Gilbert punched the other man multiple times in the head and at one point tried to strangle him. Olson-Gilbert is known to the alleged victim and there has been ongoing conflict between them. Olson-Gilbert and the woman were together at a residence in violation of the protection order.

Olson-Gilbert was scheduled to make an initial appearance on the charges on Monday before Judge Todd Cresap.

Olson-Gilbert is currently on supervised probation for terrorizing a woman and shoving, strangling and scraping her with a knife during a domestic violence altercation on June 3. He was sentenced in August to a year and a day in jail, all suspended but 63 days served, and two years of supervised probation. He entered into a pretrial diversion agreement on a child neglect charge on July 30. Olson-Gilbert had been accused of failing to provide adequate supervision for a child after a toddler was found wandering in May.
