Edward Zackery Philbrook, 24, Minot, is accused of of taking and smashing a woman’s phone when she tried to take video of a domestic altercation in case he became violent and then of putting the woman in a chokehold and trying to strangle her when she tried to take the phone back on Monday. The woman had marks on her neck, according to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court.

Philbrook is charged in district court in Minot with Class C felony domestic violence causing serious bodily injury. He made an initial appearance in court on Tuesday before Judge Gary Lee, who set bond at $5,000 cash or corporate surety, ordered Philbrook to have no contact with the alleged victim, and set a preliminary hearing date for Feb. 18.
