Donnie Lee Jr. charged with felony domestic violence, assaulting officer

Donnie Eugene Lee Jr., 23, Minot, is accused of beating a woman over an extended period of time and trying to strangle her at a residence on Dec. 3. According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, the woman ran to a nearby convenience store for help. She told officers that she had believed Lee might kill her. Police then went to the residence and found Lee highly intoxicated. Officers took him to Trinity Hospital to be checked out. At the hospital, Lee struggled with officers and kicked one of them in the leg and arm and broke his body camera off his chest. While he was being handcuffed in an examining room, Lee smashed his head into the X-Ray viewing board on the wall of the room and caused it to crack into pieces.

Lee is charged in district court in Minot with Class C felony domestic violence causing serious bodily injury, Class C felony simple assault on a police officer, Class A misdemeanor violation of an order prohibiting contact, and Class A misdemeanor criminal mischief. He was scheduled to make an initial appearance in court on Monday before Judge Gary Lee.
