Ronald Wootan, Rolla, sentenced to 8 years for manslaughter
Ronald Wayne Wootan, 51, Rolla was sentenced on Nov. 9 to 10 years in prison, with two years suspended, followed by three years of supervised probation, for manslaughter.
Northeast District Court Judge Anthony Benson also ordered Wootan to pay $775 in court costs. The sentence will run consecutive to a sentence in another case.
Wootan pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of Class B felony manslaughter in August. He had originally been charged with Class AA felony murder.
Wootan shot and killed James Pochant, 26, in Rolette on Dec. 17, 2018. According to court documents, additional charges against Wootan came as a result of his discharging a firearm and striking a Minot Police Department SWAT vehicle that had responded to the scene and firing into a residential area of Rolette where at least one residential dwelling was struck by a bullet.
