Dylan Bruce, Minot, sentenced to 115 days time served, year probation, for misdemeanor sexual assault

Dylan Lee Bruce, 19, Minot, who had originally been charged with Class AA felony gross sexual imposition and Class C felony aggravated assault, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to the lesser offenses of Class A misdemeanor sexual assault-offensive contact and Class A misdemeaor assault.

Judge Richard Hagar sentenced him to 360 days, all suspended but the 115 days he has already served in the Ward County Jail, and one year supervised probation. He will receive 16 days off his sentence for good behavior. He received concurrent sentences on the two misdemeanor charges. Hagar also ordered Bruce to have no contact with the victim and to pay $325 in court costs and restitution yet to be determined.

Bruce had originally been charged with raping the woman, who is known to him, at a campground on July 18 and then punching her in the face with a closed fist and knocking her to the ground when she tried to leave.

Bruce’s stepmother, Stacey Kae Bruce, 36, Minot, allegedly joined in the physical assault on the victim and struck the victim in the face and the head. Dylan Bruce allegedly told his stepmother to keep beating the victim. Stacey Bruce is charged with Class C felony aggravated assault in district court in Minot.

According to court documents, two neighbors at the campsite had gone over to the Bruce campsite when they overheard the altercation and tried to intervene. The Bruces and family members refused to let the victim leave and berated the neighbors for getting involved.
