Garrison’s Dickens Village Festival plans under way

GARRISON – Plans are under way for the Dickens Village Festival in Garrison this year.

“We are continuing planning with some changes due to (COVID-19) regulations,” said McKaila Behles, director of the Garrison Convention and Visitors Bureau.

This year’s event, an annual event turning the community into a Victorian town from the era of Charles Dickens, is scheduled for Nov. 27-28, Dec. 4-5 and Dec. 11-12.

Behles said that now more than ever, they feel many need the uplifting spirit of the festival. She said the festival committee and businesses are working together to have a “ND Smart Restart” with the help of their visitors.

She said there will be some limited capacity at some of this year’s events.

Other COVID-19 measures being taken include guests will be encouraged to wear masks, hand sanitizing stations will be available at the main attractions or locations, and sanitation wipes will be available at the theater and Queen Elizabus to wipe down seats.

Some changes made not relating to COVID-19 include the event on Fridays will not start until noon, the play (“A Christmas Carol”) will be presented four times – the first Friday and every Saturday, there will be some night entertainment and there will be no Sunday event.

Many festival activities are free to visitors.
