Minot Salvation Army thrift store to close by end of this month

The Minot Salvation Army thrift store will close its doors by the end of the month, Capt. John Woodard of the Minot Salvation Army said Tuesday.

Woodard attributed the closure to problems with expenses over the past couple of years as well as the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. He said the Salvation Army will make its decisions forward to benefit the various programs and the people they serve.

“It’s a sad situation for us,” said Woodard. “It’s not something that we really want to do. Unfortunately, we haven’t had a good year at all.”

Woodard said there will be a fundraiser sometime next month to liquidate hard assets at the store like sales racks. Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit Salvation Army programs such as social services and church programs Woodard said the fundraiser will likely happen on Oct. 15.
