Franklin Dougherty Jr. charged with criminal trespass

Franklin Randolph Dougherty Jr., 23, Minot, is charged in district court in Minot with trespassing at a residence on Saturday and staying there without permission.

Dougherty is charged in district court in Minot with Class C felony trespass.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed with the court, Dougherty claimed to have crawled into the residence through a window, but the window is broken and cannot be opened. The resident claimed that Dougherty broke the lock on the door to the residence, but investigators could not find evidence that the lock was broken. Dougherty said he went to the residence to “crash” because he needed a place to stay and is homeless. The resident knows Dougherty but did not give him permission to be there. According to the affidavit, the officer believed Dougherty was under the influence but Dougherty denied that he had taken anything. Dougherty was arrested on outstanding warrants as well as on the trespass charge and taken the Ward County Jail. He was scheduled to make an initial court appearance on Tuesday.
