Three people injured in two-vehicle crash near Garrison
GARRISON – Three people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on N.D. Highway 37, three miles west of Garrison, on Saturday.
According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, a westbound pickup driven by Duane Bear, 31, Garrison, crossed the center line and entered the eastbound lane. Travis Kolden, 47, Ryder, driving an eastbound Kenworth truck-trailer, applied brakes and attempted to steer away from the pickup. The Ford-150 pickup’s front passenger wheel area struck the front passenger wheel area of the Kenworth. The pickup entered the south ditch where it rolled and came to rest on its driver’s side. Both Bear and passenger Richard Ross, also 31, Garrison, were ejected from the pickup. The Kenworth came to rest in the road blocking the westbound lane.
Bear and Ross were seriously injured and taken by ambulance to Garrison Medical Center. Bear was transported by NorthStar Life Flight from Garrison to Trinity Hospital in Minot.
Kolden had serious but non-life-threatening injuries from the crash. He was taken by private vehicle to the Garrison Medical Center.
None of the occupants of the vehicles were wearing their seat belts, the patrol said.
Bear faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under suspension, according to the patrol.
The crash happened shortly after 7 p.m.
The crash remains under investigation by the N.D. Highway Patrol.
