Power outage in Minot

Ciara Parizek/MDN The Minot Fire Department responded to a fire near a warehouse on the east side of the Burdick Expressway viaduct Tuesday morning. The fire was related to a power line that was struck by a construction crew working in the area, cutting power to many homes and businesses.

Power was out for 34 minutes in parts of Minot on Tuesday morning.

“The outage was caused by a main feeder cable hit by a contractor doing directional boring on the north side of the Burdick Expressway underneath the viaduct,” said Kathy Aas, community relations manager for Xcel Energy, in an email.

The outage started at 9:09 a.m. and power was restored at 9:43 a.m.

Aas said that the outage impacted downtown Minot and Burdick Expressway to 11th Avenue SW and SE. About 1,594 Xcel Energy customers were affected.
