Matthew Fixsal Jr., Minot, charged with accidentally shooting himself and a friend

Matthew Duane Fixsal Jr., 31, Minot, is accused of accidentally shooting both himself and his friend, Taylor Bliven, on March 15 while he was showing his friend the new trigger on his Springfield Hellcat Micro Compact 9mm pistol.

Fixsal shot himself in the hand and Bliven was shot in the right side of his stomach. Both men were taken to Trinity Hospital for treatment after the incident. Bliven had to have surgery after the incident, according to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, and he wanted to press charges against Fixsal and seek restitution.

Fixsal is charged in district court in Minot with Class C felony reckless endangerment and Class B misdemeanor discharge of a firearm within the city limits. He was scheduled to make an appearance on the charges on Thursday before Judge Richard Hagar.
