Joshua Wentz, Minot, charged with strangling woman

Joshua Peter Wentz, 39, Minot, is accused of strangling a woman during a domestic violence altercation early Wednesday morning.

He is charged in district court in Minot with Class C felony domestic violence causing serious bodily injury.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed with the court, Wentz and the woman had been lying in bed watching TV when Wentz told the woman he wanted to break up with her. The woman agreed with him and Wentz allegedly then grabbed her shoulder, rolled her toward him and punched her in the face twice with a closed fist. The woman rolled over on her stomach and Wentz got on top of her and pulled on her chin, causing her head to move toward her back. Wentz wrapped one of his hands around her neck and placed the other one under her chin, making it hard for the woman to breathe.

The woman’s cheek was swelling and she had marks on her neck, according to the affidavit.

The woman declined medical attention at the scene.
