Grants available for local emergency food, shelter programs

North Central North Dakota has been chosen to receive $35,465 from EFSP Phase 37 Funding and $38,192 from EFSP/CARES Funds to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the counties of Bottineau, Burke, McHenry, Mountrail, Pierce, Renville and Ward.

The distribution of federal funds was made by a national board chaired by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency and consisting of representatives from American Red Cross, Catholic Charities USA, National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA, The Jewish Federations of North America, The Salvation Army, and United Way Worldwide.

Local agencies chosen to receive funds must be non-profits or units of government that be eligible to receive federal funds, have an accounting system, practice non-discrimination and have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs

Qualifying organizations interested in applying for Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds should contact Rich Berg, Souris Valley United Way, at 1941 4th St. SW, Minot, or call 839-2994 for an application. The deadline to apply is July 10.
