Sheriff, jail COVID tests complete

Ward County on Friday received final results of coronavirus testing that had occurred earlier this week within the Sheriff’s Office and Detention Center.

Initial test results concluded that six jail personnel and 3 members of the Sheriff’s Office had tested positive for coronavirus but were showing no symptoms. The remainder of the test results received Friday were all negative.

Follow-up testing for both the Sheriff’s Office and Ward County jail staff and inmates has been tentatively scheduled for May 29.

Due to positive test results the Ward County Commission decided during a special meeting Wednesday to delay the re-opening to the public of the jail and county administrative building until at least June 2. Originally a May 26 opening had been announced.
