Kenneth Kulstad, Powers Lake, gets suspended sentence, probation, for felony solicitation of a minor

Kenneth Allen Kulstad, 63, Powers Lake, was sentenced on Friday to 360 days in jail, all suspended but the two days he already served, and seven years of supervised probation for Class C felony solicitation of a minor under the age of 15.

Court records show that North Central District Court Judge Richard Hagar also ordered Kulstad to have no contact with the victim and to register as a sex offender.

Restitution will be reserved for 90 days. Kulstad will also have to pay court costs.

If Kulstad successfully completes probation, the C felony will be reduced to an A misdemeanor.

According to court documents, Kulstad was originally charged in Burke County with sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in July 2017, a Class AA felony and an A felony. He had been accused of fondling the girl under her underwear on one occasion and kissing her chest on another occasion.

The Class AA felony was dismissed in September 2018. The A felony was reduced to the Class C felony solicitation of a minor charge under the terms of a plea deal.
