Disabled American Veterans’ annual project helps veterans

Submitted Photo From the left, Paul Simonson, Disabled American Veterans service officer, is shown with Walt Thompson, winner of the first prize in the local Minot DAV Annual Raffle. The first prize, a Traeger outdoor grill, was donated by Ryan Family dealerships. Coincidentally, Thompson is a Korean War Army veteran. Proceeds of the annual raffle go to help veterans causes.

The local Disabled American Veterans annual raffle will be helping veterans causes.

Of the raffle proceeds, $1,000 will be used to help the North Dakota Veterans Home Foundation in Lisbon to reupholster aging furniture. DAV Chapter 4 of Minot also donated $600 to On the Water Inc., to purchase inflatable life vests for elderly and handicapped veterans. DAV also supported various other veterans’ causes including a $500 donation to Honor Flights.

Walt Thompson was winner of the recent raffle’s first prize, a Traeger outdoor grill donated by Ryan Family Dealerships. Second-prize winner of $200 was Sandy Long, and third, fourth and fifth-prize winners were Beverly Vayda, Sharon Peterson and Clifford Roth who each won $100.

Due to the coronavirus threat the annual DAV raffle project was cut short by 50 percent. The raffle has ended but the need continues, according to DAV officials. Anyone who wishes to donate to DAV can send it to DAV Chapter 4, PO Box 32, Minot, ND 58702.
