Crude oil spill from pipeline occurs in Watford City area

WATFORD CITY – A crude oil spill from a pipeline on Friday impacted about one and a half miles of the Red Wing Creek, southwest of Watford City.

The spill has been contained and cleanup operations are proceeding.

The North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality (NDDEQ) was notified of the spill on Friday. The pipeline is operated by True Oil LLC. The company has not yet estimated the volume of crude oil released.

The cause of the spill is still under investigation.

Personnel from the NDDEQ are inspecting the site and will continue to monitor the investigation and remediation.
