Corps takes comments on proposed 30th Street SW project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is taking public comment on a permit application for the 30th Street Southwest detention at Second Larson Coulee project.

The application from the Ward County Water Resource District is being evaluated under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act for the discharge of dredged or fill material in waters of the United States.

The water resource district is proposing to straighten 30th Street Southwest to improve public safety and provide flood risk reduction. The project would include construction of an earthen dam/roadway embankment, concrete outlet structures and riprap stilling basin. This requires the placement of fill material in Second Larson Coulee and adjacent wetlands to complete the project.

Written comments should be submitted on or before April 22 to Benjamin Reile, project manager, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, North Dakota Regulatory Office, 3319 University Drive, Bismarck ND 58504 or benjamin.d.reile@usace.army.mil.

The Corps is particularly interested in receiving comments related to the proposal’s probable impacts on the affected aquatic environment and the second and cumulative effects.

Anyone may request, in writing, that a public hearing be held.
