Annual International Military Ball planned for April 4 in Minot

Event first held in 1988

The 32nd annual International Military Ball is scheduled for Saturday, April 4, in the Grand Hotel in Minot.

A formal event with a black-tie dinner, the evening begins with a social at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. During the social there will be a receiving line including Minot AFB commanders and their Canadian counterparts.

The Minot AFB Honor Guard and other groups will take part in the event.

The first International Military Ball was held in Minot on Feb. 13, 1988, at the Sheraton-Riverside Inn, now Clarion Hotel, with between 500 and 600 people attending, according to the files of The Minot Daily News.

Those attending included Minot and Minot AFB dignitaries and numerous representatives of Canadian forces and other U.S. forces.

“It will be a first-class event,” Col. John J. Politi, commander of the base’s 91st Strategic Missile Wing, now 91st Missile Wing, told The Minot Daily News in a story prior to the event. Politi proposed the idea to hold the event.

Cost of the April 4 event is $75 per person. For more information or to register, contact the Minot Area Chamber of Commerce at 852-6000 or email the Chamber at chamber@minotchamber.org.
