Air Force secretary to meet with airmen and their families

Secretary of the Air Force Barbara Barrett is scheduled to visit Minot Air Force Base today.

Minot AFB officials released the following statement about her visit:

“Secretary of the Air Force Barbara M. Barrett, accompanied by Air Force Global Strike leadership, will connect with airmen and families from the 5th Bomb Wing and 91st Missile Wing during a visit to Minot Air Force Base. During the visit to Minot, Barrett will meet with airmen and their families and tour facilities around the base. Barrett’s priorities for the Department range from building the United States Air Force, modernizing both air and space forces, growing strong leaders and resilient families, to strengthening our allies and partners.”

Minot AFB is the only dual-wing, nuclear-capable base. It has B-52 bombers and Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missiles, the latter in underground facilities in the Minot missile field.

Barrett became the 25th secretary of the Air Force in 2019, according to her U.S. Air Force bio. Prior, she was chairman of the board of the Aerospace Corporation, El Segundo, Calif. She has served in several government positions including as U.S. ambassador to Finland from 2008-2009 and deputy administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration. She is an instrument-rated pilot. She has also been trained and certified for space flight. She has been the owner and CEO of the Triple Creek Guest Ranch at Darby, Mont., since 1994, according to the bio.

Barrett replaced Heather Wilson as Air Force secretary. Wilson stepped down to become president of the University of Texas El Paso.
