Patrick Adam Hugi, 54, Max, is accused of slapping a woman multiple times in the face, poking her in the eyes, dragging her by the hair and covering her mouth until she could not breathe on Wednesday.

He is charged in district court in Minot with Class C felony domestic violence resulting in serious bodily injury.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed with the court, North Dakota Highway Patrol troopers responded to a residence after dispatch received a 911 hangup call. The woman was heard screaming for help when they walked around the side of the house. The woman, who had injuries to her face, black eyes and marks on her neck, told the troopers that she had tried to escape through a bathroom window, which is why the window was broken.

Hugi denied striking the woman

Hugi was scheduled to make an initial appearance in court on Wednesday before Judge Gary Lee.
