Health Screenings at Ag Expo

Visitors to this year’s KMOT Ag Expo will have access to low-cost health screenings, along with important information that could save a life, according to Trinity Health.

Trinity Health will use its exhibit space to promote “Stop the Bleed,” a program that teaches the basics of how to stop life-threatening bleeding.

“Farm-related injuries can be deadly, with severe bleeding that’s fatal within minutes,” said Trauma Program Manager Rhonda Gunderson in a news release. “Stop the Bleed provides the information and the tools that every farmer and rancher should have in a trauma situation.”

According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, agricultural workers have a fatality rate of almost seven times the rate of all workers. Moreover, rural residents are often farther away from EMS responders.

In addition to Stop the Bleed, visitors will have an opportunity to check on their health status. Clinicians from Trinity Health will be available each day of the show to provide blood glucose and cholesterol screenings at a combined cost of $15. Free blood pressure checks will also be available.

The screenings will be available from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The ag expo is scheduled Jan. 29-31 at the North Dakota State Fair Center.
