Energy efficiency grants available

The North Dakota Department of Commerce, Division of Community Services, is accepting applications for its State Energy Program. The program promotes energy efficiency and conservation and is funded through financial assistance from the U.S. Department of Energy.

While any organization may apply, priority is given to schools, political subdivisions, state agencies and nonprofits. Grant amounts to these entities generally range from $5,000 to $50,000.

Funds may be used in a variety of ways, including building energy audits, energy efficiency upgrades, education activities to promote energy efficient practices, installation of onsite renewable energy technology or purchase of alternative fuel vehicles.

The application is available at communityservices.nd.gov under Renewable Energy Programs. For energy efficiency upgrades, applicants also must complete the Energy Savings Analysis: Energy Savings Analysis form. A Section 106 Clearance form is required for upgrades to properties constructed before 1971.

Only future projects are eligible. More information is available on the website.

Applications should be received by March 2 and can be submitted to lnitsch@nd.gov or mailed to: Attn Lori Nitsch, ND Department of Commerce, PO Box 2057, Bismarck, ND 58502-2057.
