Animal shelter closed to the public due to threats

The Souris Valley Animal Shelter is currently closed to the public because there have been some recent threatening incidents there, according to Shelbi Waters, executive director.

Waters said the incidents prompted the shelter to hire private security. She decided to close the shelter to the public because of a potential physical threat to staff members and animals at the shelter.

Waters said the people who made the threats have been charged with no trespass warrants but are currently free. She declined to identify the people who have been causing the problems.

Waters said the shelter will be closed to the public for at least a week but people can make private appointments to see the adoptable animals.

To schedule an appointment, call 852-6133. The normal business hours at the shelter are from 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
