November snowfall, temps below long-term averages

Eloise Ogden/MDN The sun shines brightly on the First International Bank & Trust sign along Sixteenth Street Southwest in Minot. The sign notes the 42 degree temperature shortly after noon on Wednesday.

November went out with a storm leaving little snow but plenty of ice on roads, sidewalks, driveways and parking lots.

The total moisture for the month of November was 0.71 inches, which is slightly below the long-term average of 0.75 inches, said Joe Effertz of the North Central Research Extension Center, south of Minot.

He said the total snowfall for that month was 2.9 inches which is 3.2 inches below the long-term average of 6.1.

“This past month of November, we had an average temperature of 25.8 degrees, which was 1.5 degrees below the 112-year long-term average of 27.3 degrees,” Effertz said.

He said the lowest temperature of the month was -2 degrees, which occurred on Nov. 7 and the high was 50 degrees, recorded on Nov. 18.

For most of the rest of the week through Saturday the National Weather Service forecasts daytime temperatures in the mid-20s and 30s, then dropping into the teens, with a chance of snow, for the weekend.
