Judge Mattson permits lawyer for murder defendant Christopher Vickerman to withdraw

Judge Doug Mattson will permit defense attorney Eric Baumann to withdraw as the lawyer for Christopher Alan Vickerman, 29, over the objections of the prosecution.

Vickerman stands accused of the Class AA felony murder of his father, Mark Vickerman, 55, on May 10 at a northwest Minot residence.

Baumann said at a hearing on Thursday that the attorney-client relationship has broken down and Vickerman is unhappy with his office.

State’s Attorney Roza Larson objected to Baumann’s move to withdraw because it will further delay the case.

Mattson said it would likely create difficulties in the event of a conviction if he did require Baumann to remain as Vickerman’s lawyer.

A new lawyer will now be appointed to represent Vickerman.

Vickerman has pleaded not guilty to the charge, but no trial date has yet been set. Baumann said the trial could take up to two weeks; Larson said it might take up to a week and a half.

Vickerman has been held at the Ward County Jail on $750,000 cash or corporate surety bond since May.
