Dayton Gotvaslee, Minot, given suspended sentence, probation, anger management for child neglect

Dayton John Gotvaslee, 45, Minot, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to Class C felony child neglect and was sentenced to 360 days in jail, all suspended, and two years of supervised probation. Judge Doug Mattson also ordered Gotvaslee to get an evaluation and complete anger management treatment if ordered. Mattson also ordered Gotvaslee to have no contact with the child or her mother for the next two years and to pay court costs.

According to court records, Gotvaslee twice struck his 11-year-old daughter in the head with an open palm on March 24 and unintentionally caused the child to suffer a concussion. Gotvaslee had scolded the child, she yelled at him not to yell at her and he struck her in the head with an open palm. The child was checked out by an ambulance crew but they didn’t find anything seriously wrong and she didn’t want to go to the hospital. The girl’s mother later took her to a family nurse practitioner for treatment after the girl complained of dizziness. The nurse practitioner diagnosed the concussion. The girl had been visiting Gotvaslee at the time of the incident.
