Cameron Olson, Minot, charged with strangling girlfriend

Cameron Eli Olson, 26, Minot, is accused of strangling his girlfriend during a domestic altercation late Wednesday evening.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, police found Olson sitting in a chair in the front yard when they pulled up. He was drunk.

The residence was in disarray, with food, clothing and trash strewn about. The alleged victim’s broken glasses were located on the floor in the hallway. The woman had dried blood on the front of her chest and neck and marks consistent with strangulation on her neck.

According to the affidavit, the couple’s baby was inside the residence during the incident as well. The alleged victim told police that Olson stayed at her residence on and off but does not have a key and she does not know how he got in. They had been having a fight via phone and text before the incident. Olson got into her bedroom, was arguing with her and was pushing her while she was lying on the bed. She pushed him back with her feet. Olson allegedly threw a baby swing in the direction of the baby’s bassinet. He then pushed her again and she shoved his head into the door frame in self defense and bit him on the chest. they fell to the floor and Olson straddled the woman and strangled her. The woman bit him on the hand to get him to let go. She then stopped moving, hoping he would stop. Once he did, she got up and called 911.

Olson was placed under arrest and told police that the argument got physical but only after the alleged victim attacked him. He acknowledged the woman had asked him to leave the residence because he had bought beer.

Olson made an initial appearance in district court in Minot on Thursday before Judge Stacy Louser on the Class C felony domestic violence resulting in serious bodily injury charge. A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for Jan. 7.
