Minot Kmart for lease

No closure imminent

Kim Fundingsland/MDN As part of a possible redevelopment project, part of the building housing Minot’s Kmart has been listed “for lease” by a Denver real estate firm.

Minot’s Kmart Store appears to be on the verge of a major change. The building in which Kmart is located, on 20th Avenue SE, is listed as available for lease by SRS Real Estate Partners of Denver, Colorado.

According to the listing, proposed redevelopment of the property could include two new businesses to occupy one-half of the building with a downsized Kmart occupying the other half. Each business would have their own entrance.

The building, which was built in 1970, is approximately 500 feet wide. It is listed as containing 108,110 square feet of space. No one from Minot’s Kmart was available for comment Friday.

The Minot Kmart store has escaped several rounds of closures nationally and is not on any current announced list of store closures. Kmart earlier announced that stores in Fargo, St. Paul and International Falls, Minn., will be closing in mid-December. That will leave only three Kmarts remaining in the two states, one each in Minot and Bismarck and one in Minneapolis.

SRS acquired Kmart property from Sears Holdings in July of 2015 and retained the right for retenanting and redevelopment.
