Justin Peterson, Minot, charged with assault, interference with 911 call

Justin Isaak Peterson, 34, Minot, is accused of assaulting two people and interfering with a 911 call early Friday.

Peterson is charged in district court in Minot with Class C felony domestic violence causing serious bodily injury, a Class C felony, and domestic violence causing bodily injury, a Class B misdemeanor, and Class C felony interference with an emergency call. He made an initial appearance in district court in Minot on Friday before Judge Doug Mattson. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 12.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed with the court, the younger woman told police that she had been home with Peterson and heard him yelling. Peterson told her he wasn’t yelling at her and told her to go back to the bedroom. When she turned to leave, Peterson blocked her attempts to get past him. She tried to push him out of the way but wasn’t successful. Peterson got angerier and shoved her down on the floor and began to curse at her. He held her down by grabbing her arms with his hands and she was unable to get up. She was eventually able to get up and walk into the kitchen and Peterson shoved her into the kitchen sink, causing her to hit her head and cut her forehead. The woman said she blacked out. The woman used Peterson’s phone to call another woman for help, but Peterson grabbed the phone from her and threw it across the kitchen. Peterson continued to push her and grab her by the hair for an extended period. At one point, he put his hands around her neck and squeezed. He also slapped her across the face.

The older woman told police that she arrived at the residence and discovered broken glass, groceries and blood on the floor in the kitchen. When she asked Peterson what had happened he began striking her in the face, back and shoulders with an open and closed fist and pulled out some of her hair.

According to the affidavit, Peterson had consumed several alcohol beverages prior to the incident. At one point he had smashed a glass vase over his head in an attempt to compare his injuries with the younger woman’s injuries. The glass on the floor was from Peterson smashing the glass vase against his own head. The older woman told police that Peterson often breaks things when he is angry.
