Jarrod Smith, Minot, charged with assaulting, threatening girlfriend

Jarrod Anthony Smith, 31, Minot, is accused of assaulting and threatening his girlfriend with a knife on Saturday.

Smith is charged in district court in Minot with Class C felony terrorizing with a dangerous weapon, a Class C felony, and domestic violence causing bodily injury, a Class B misdemeanor.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed with the court, Smith grabbed the woman by the throat and kicked her twice with his bare feet during the argument. The woman called a friend for help and Smith grabbed a kitchen knife and held it to his throat and said he would kill himself if she called the police. Later, he got on top of her while she lay on a bean bag chair in the living room and threatened her with the knife. Smith then threw the knife and it landed between the wall and the bean bag chair. The woman’s friend then arrived and called the police.

Judge Gary Lee set bond for Smith at $7,500 cash or corporate surety on Tuesday, ordered him to participate in the 24/7 Sobriety Program and continue with the treatment programs he is enrolled in, and to have no contact with the alleged victim.
