FDHU offers free needle disposal
A new option is available in Minot for safe disposal of used injection needles and syringes, such as those used by people with diabetes.
First District Health Unit has placed a large, red, freestanding “sharps” disposal container next to the garage building at 801 11th Ave. SW in Minot. Only needles and syringes should be placed in the disposal box; it cannot be used for pills or other medications. The container is accessible any day or time, and is not monitored. Use of the container is free and anonymous.
The container operates much like a postal drop box. Once the used needles are deposited in the chute, they will no longer be accessible. The contents of the box will be picked up by a contract company for proper disposal.
Properly disposing of used needles can help prevent unintentional injuries and the spread of disease in the community. First District also offers the confidential Good Neighbor Project syringe service program to provide resources and help improve outcomes for persons with an addiction to injected drugs.
