Kevin Conti, Minot, charged with stealing motor vehicle

Kevin Marcel Conti, 27, Minot, who is already facing a slew of offenses in district court in Minot, was charged on Tuesday with stealing a motor vehicle last Dec. 1.

Conti is charged with a Class B felony in district court in Minot for the latest offense.

Among the open cases Conti is charged in are possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine and conspiracy to deliver methamphetamine and heroin; terrorizing for allegedly brandishing a knife and threatening a store manager who caught him shoplifting; breaking into a vehicle and theft of property.

Conti’s lawyer, James Wiese, argued for a lower bond at a hearing on Tuesday in district court in Minot. Wiese said Conti has been in treatment and would like to return home to help support his family. Conti has been in the jail for five weeks and hasn’t been able to make bond.

Ward County Deputy State’s Attorney Todd Schwarz said Conti is a danger to society. At this point, Schwarz said, Conti has amassed the equivalent of “frequent flyer miles” in terms of court appearances.

‘I think people in Minot (and) Ward County need protection from him,” said Schwarz.

Judge Richard Hagar set bond for all of Conti’s cases at $25,000 cash or corporate surety.

“There seem to be some concerns about your ongoing endeavors,” said Hagar.
