A 49-year-old pilot from Willowbrook, Illinois, survived a helicopter crash near Fessenden on Wednesday with only minor injuries, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol. Michael Hamouz was taken by ambulance to an area hospital to be checked out as a precaution.
According to the Patrol, Hamouz was piloting a 2007 Robinson R4 helicopter that was spraying waterways by U.S. Highway 52, about 4.5 miles south of Fessenden. Hamouz attempted to go under the powerlines on the east side of the roadway and the blades caught the bottom power line, causing the helicopter to crash in a field about 200 yards from the roadway.
The accident happened at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
