Christian Henry, Minot, charged with threatening convenience store clerk with a knife

Christian Joel Henry, 27, Minot, is accused of threatening a female clerk at the Burdick Expressway Loaf ‘N Jug with a knife on Friday night.

He is charged with Class C felony terrorizing in district court in Minot.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed with the court, Henry had been yelling at the clerk over a stolen cell phone, got upset and brandished a knife. Another man grabbed the knife away from Henry and put it in his own waistband. Henry then threw money down on the counter “aggressively.” The clerk told police that she was afraid of what Henry might do. The two male witnesses told police they had seen the incident.

Henry told police he had gone to the Loaf N’ Jug to confront the clerk’s husband, who had apparently been at the store, about the stolen cell phone. Henry had not called police before going to confront the store clerk because he said he did not know he could do that.

In court on Monday, Henry told the judge he felt it was all a misunderstanding. He said the knife wasn’t found and asked if his fingerprints were on the knife. He said his items had been stolen a few days ago, leaving him with little cash on hand to make bond, and his wife is caring for their four children.

A C felony carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Judge Stacy Louser informed him that he could face a minimum mandatory sentence of two years in prison if he is convicted because a weapon was involved.

A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for Sept. 26.
