WILLISTON – A 28-year-old Williston woman was killed and two boys in her vehicle when a vehicle failed to yield the right of way at an intersection marked with a stop sign and struck an oncoming vehicle near Williston on Thursday afternoon.

Laquinta Cooper, who was a passenger in a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Richard Minton, 30, of Williston, was airlifted to Trinity Hospital in Minot from the scene of the accident, where she later died of her injuries. Minton and two boys, ages 8 and 5, who were passengers in Minton’s vehicle, were taken by ambulance to CHI St. Alexius Hospital in Williston with minor injuries following the crash.

According to the Highway Patrol, the other driver, Derian Sim, 18, Williston, was driving a 2016 Dodge Ram 2500. Sim was not injured. He will be cited.

Minton’s Hyundai was traveling north on U.S. Highway 2, approaching 58th Street NW in Williston when Sim’s Dodge Ram attempted to cross the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 2 from the east on 58th Street NW. The Hyundai’s front passenger area struck the Ram’s front driver’s area. The Ram spun clockwise, coming to a rest upright, facing north/northwest in the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 2.
