The Magic City Discovery Center Board of Directors has announced a $100,000 donation from the MDU Resources Foundation toward the MCDC capital campaign to build a children’s discovery center on north hill in Minot.

MDU has chosen to sponsor the entrance canopy on the new 22,000-square-foot building overlooking Minot and the Souris River Valley, on Minot Park District property.

“The Magic City Discovery Center is an exciting, innovative concept for our entire region,” said MDU District Manager Curt Olson. “We are committed to providing children with new and exciting STEAM education opportunities and quality-of-life enhancements for everyone. Over the years, MDU has adopted the slogan ‘In the Community to Serve,’ and we believe in those words.”

“MDU has been a part of our community for many years and their level of commitment to the children of our region is refreshing and much appreciated,” said Mark Lyman, president of the MCDC Board of Directors.

Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. distributes natural gas and generates, transmits and distributes electricity and provides related services in North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana and Wyoming. Montana-Dakota is a subsidiary of MDU Resources Group, Inc.

The Magic City Discovery Center capital campaign seeks to raise at least $7 million to design and build 11 exhibit galleries of varying sizes plus a 35-foot-tall climbing exhibit.
