June’s average temperature 63.5; below average moisture

The past month of June had an average temperature of 63.5 degrees, which was 0.7 degrees above the 112-year long-term average of 62.8 degrees, according to Joe Effertz of the North Central Research Extension Center, south of Minot.

“Our lowest temperature of the month was 39 degrees, which occurred on June 1st and the high was 90 degrees, which occurred on the 3rd,” said Effertz.

He said the total moisture for the month was 3.17 inches, which is 0.09 inches below the long-term average of 3.26 inches.

“This has been the fourth month of below average moisture. The thunderstorm on Saturday morning brought us closer to average for the month, dropping 1.71 inches of rain,” Effertz said.

The National Weather Service forecasts partly sunny weather with a daytime high near 77 on Thursday, July 4. There’s a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms that day.
