Tommy Raleigh, Ruthville, sentenced to time served, probation, for strangling girlfriend

Tommy Christopher Raleigh, 37, Ruthville, was sentenced on Friday to a year in jail, all suspended but the 41 days he has already served, and two years of supervised probation for strangling his girlfriend and saying he could kill her on May 23.

Judge Todd Cresap also ordered Raleigh to have no contact with the victim, to complete a 26 week domestic violence offenders program and to pay $1,100 in court costs.

The victim testified at the sentencing hearing that she is not happy with the sentence and thinks Raleigh needs psychiatric treatment and said she fears him.

Cresap said the domestic violence offenders course is specifically intended to treat people who have committed domestic violence.

If Raleigh successfully completes probation, the Class C felony aggravated assault charge will be reduced to a Class A misdemeanor on his record.

Ward County State’s Attorney Roza Larson said Friday that Raleigh was previously charged with domestic violence in Nebraska.
