Stephen Freeman, Minot, sentenced for storage unit burglaries

Stephen Patrick Freeman, 33, Minot, was sentenced Wednesday to 360 days in jail, all suspended but the 131 days he has already served, and three years of supervised probation for burglarizing multiple storage units, in separate cases, this spring.

Freeman was also ordered to stay 100 feet away from any storage units unless he has proof he has rented one in his own name. He must also pay restitution to more than 20 victims, in an amount yet to be determined.

In one of the cases, Freeman was charged with co-defendant Skyler Lavallie, 29, of Dunseith, of burglarizing a storage unit in May.

In another case, he was charged with conspiring to burglarize storage units with co-defendant Kory David Johnson, 28, of Minot.

“You got a heck of a deal here, Mr. Freeman,” said Judge Todd Cresap. “I wouldn’t blow it if I were you.”
