Downtown hosts wine, beer and art

Downtown Wine Walk is coming up

The Downtown Association will be holding their annual wine and beer walk on Thursday, June 13, from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. with 16 stops for guests to try different wines, beers and see featured art.

The Downtown Wine Walk is typically held yearly with the twist of beer being added recently. This years wine walk will feature eight specially made beers by Souris River Brewing and the newly opened Atypical Brewing.

Margie Bolton of Margie’s Art and Glass says that every stop will have food with some also having music and many featuring artwork.

“That is our newest thing,” Bolton said. “Now we’re adding art, so it’s wine, beer and art to extend interest.”

The Taube Museum and Art Gallery, Suite 1 Gallery and POEM Art Gallery will all be taking part to add their own artistic touches alongside others who may be featuring works.

Bolton says that Margie’s Art and Glass will be featuring exclusive, high-end Native American influenced pieces during the walk.

Since the very first wine walk was held in 2007, the purpose has been to raise money for beautification of the downtown area. Events like this, according to Bolton, help to bring the seasonal decorations such as flowers, lighting and other beautifications that help bring the downtown area to life.

“It’s a good fundraiser for us and a community building event,” Bolton said. “It’s an integral part in us being able to continue to maintain services to the community.”

This years list of venues is very inclusive, involving both new and old businesses from across the downtown area. This year’s wine walk includes 15-16 downtown businesses.

“We’re trying not to over do it on stops, so people can stop and enjoy themselves,” Bolton explained.

Business include Margie’s Art and Glass, Souris River Brewing, Oliver’s Attic, Seasons, Gourmet Chef, Cookies For You, Grow With Me, Main Street Books, The Taube Museum and Art Gallery, 1st and 1st SE Event Center, Urban Winery, The East End, With Room Coffee, POEM Art Gallery, Sweet One Gallery and The Blue Rider.

Tickets can be purchased at Margie’s Art and Glass or online at eventbrite. A link can be found at downtownminot.com. Tickets cost $40 in advance or $45 at the door.
