Who are Minot’s top employers?

Minot Air Force Base, Trinity Health, Minot Public Schools, Minot State University and the City of Minot are the top five largest local employers, according to newly released information.

“We began collecting data on Feb. 25, 2019,” said Terri Philion, marketing director for the Minot Area Development Corporation. “Our method of collection has consisted of telephone calls and emails to the local businesses.”

“Accurate data is vital not only for new business attraction and retention, but for attracting a skilled labor force as well. We appreciate our local employers for providing quality jobs to the community and like to recognize them with this annual update,” Philion said.

Information includes data collected by MADC, City of Minot and Minot Daily News.

Minot Air Force Base is listed as the No. 1 employer with more than 6,300 military and civilian employees. The 5th Comptroller Squadron at Minot Air Force Base released its economic impact report in February. Minot AFB is the only dual-wing nuclear capable base in the Air Force and hosts two legs of the Strategic Triad – the 5th Bomb Wing with its B-52 bombers and the 91st Missile Wing with Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missiles in underground facilities in northwest and north central North Dakota.

Trinity Health is a top employer as well in the local area. Information provided by Trinity Health to the Minot Daily News on March 11 shows Trinity Health currently has 2,133 Minot-based employees. There’s also local clinics, a long-term care facility and close to a dozen rural health clinics. Trinity’s NorthStar Criticair helicopter provides critical care transport within a 150-mile radius of Trinity Hospital, a verified Level II trauma center.

Minot Public School District has 1,581 total employees assigned to 25 buildings, plus 488 coaches, officials and substitutes currently on the payroll, according to information provided to the Minot Daily News on March 4.

Both Trinity Health and Minot Public School District show slightly different employee numbers for 2018.
