Free vein screening clinic

Trinity Health will offer a free vein screening for the community Thursday, March 28, at the Advanced Imaging Center at Town & Country Center. The screening, for people with varicose veins, will be held from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Appointments are required by calling 857-3220.

According to Trinity Health, varicose veins are enlarged, swollen veins that usually occur in the legs. Many people regard them as simply a cosmetic issue, but varicose veins can develop into a more serious form of vein disease and may signal a higher risk for other circulatory problems.

Screening participants will undergo a physical evaluation and health history intake by professionals from Trinity’s Interventional Radiology Department. The purpose of the screening is to determine whether participants may be candidates for Venefit Targeted Endovenous Therapy, a minimally invasive treatment that uses radiofrequency energy to vaporize troublesome veins.

It’s estimated more than 30 million Americans suffer from varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency, according to the press release. Risk factors for vein disease include family history of varicose veins, obesity, multiple pregnancies, and occupations that require prolonged standing.
