Fun Zone takes over the bubble

The Minot Park District, Minot Recreation Commission, Minot State University, and the Minot Area Community Foundation have announced the movement of the Minot Fun Zone to the Minot State air-supported dome at Herb Parker Stadium for the months of January and February on Wednesdays.

A kick-off event for the new spot will take place today at 9 a.m. with a ribbon cutting. Then from 9 a.m. until noon there will be different activities for children to enjoy while they run and explore in the bubble.

“The bubble is a great opporutnity,” said Ron Merritt, Minot Parks executive director. “When you go in there and look around, it’s huge. It kind of feels like you are outdoors in the winter but with green grass.”

The Minot Fun Zone has been at the Minot Auditorium every Tuesday and Thursday up until now. They will continue to be there, but are expanding to try and offer new things.

Merritt is excited about this new opporunity that has formed with the partnership with Minot Recreation Commission, Minot State University, and the Minot Area Community Foundation.

“We believe this is the first of many great opportunities to come from these partnerships,” he said.

The Fun Zone is open to anyone, allowing children to have time to play outdoors and enjoy the bubble.

For the months of January and February, a variety of activities have been planned. There will be yoga, zumba a Souris Valley Golf Pro lesson, an animal education day with the Roosevelt Park Zoo, a Valentine’s Day dance, a sports day, and a field day.

The Minot Fun Zone will still be set up at the Minot Auditorium on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
