Fatal crash, injury crash occur near Mandaree
MANDAREE – The Bear Den Road in the Mandaree area in McKenzie County was the site of a fatal accident on Thursday and an injury accident on Wednesday, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
A 30-year-old man from Alexander died Thursday following a head-on crash on the Bear Den Road about 10 miles west of Mandaree.
The Highway Patrol said a 53-year-old man from Watford City was driving a 2018 GMC Sierra east on the Bear Den Road, attempting to negotiate a curve when the vehicle slid on the ice, crossing into the westbound lane.
The 30-year-old man from Alexander, driving a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado, was going west on the Bear Den Road as the GMC Sierra slid into the westbound lane and the vehicles collided head-on.
The driver of the GMC Sierra was wearing a seat belt. He was taken by ambulance to the McKenzie County Hospital in Watford City.
The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was not wearing a seat belt. He was taken by ambulance to the Dickinson hospital where he died.
The crash happened at 7 a.m. It is still under investigation. Names of the drivers were not released yet.
On Wednesday, two drivers were taken to area hospitals after a crash on the Bear Den Road, about six miles west of Mandaree. The crash occurred about 4:15 p.m.
According to the Highway Patrol, Frankie Gale, Watford City, driving a 2016 Kenworth semi, was going west on the Bear Den Road. Gale attempted to negotiate a curve when the vehicle slid on the ice, causing it to cross into the eastbound lane. Robert Franzen, Dickinson, driving a 2014 International semi, was going east on the Bear Den Road when Gale’s vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane and the vehicles collided head-on. Gale was taken by ambulance to the Watford City hospital and Franzen was transported to the Dickinson hospital. The crash is still under investigation.
