Thera Colleaux, Minot, sentenced for burglary, spitting at police officer

Thera Jeanne Colleaux, 27, Minot, was sentenced to one year in jail, all suspended but the nine days she has already served, and three years of supervised probation for burglarizing Law Dawgs on July 23 and for spitting at a police officer who arrested her for driving drunk on May 29.

Court records show that she pleaded guilty to the two Class C felony charges on Nov. 30. Both charges will be reduced to Class A misdemeanors if she successfully completes probation.

On the burglary charge, Colleaux was also ordered to complete an anger management class and to pay $1,100 in court costs. Restitution is reserved for 90 days. On the C felony contact by bodily fluids or excrement charge, she was ordered to pay $525 in court costs, to obtain a chemical dependency evaluation, and to complete the anger management class.

On May 29, Colleaux was arrested for DUI. Officer Joshua Noyes placed her under arrest and she spat at the back of his head after he put her in the patrol vehicle.

On July 23, she had been accused of stealing about $3,500 from Law Dawgs, her former employer. According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, Colleaux had been fired from the establishment about six months before the burglary. The owner believed she might have made a spare key before she turned her keys in after being fired. She reportedly entered through a back door behind the bar and took cash from a cabinet after she tried and failed to open a cash register.
